The Category Manager’s role is responsible for the management of product ranges (Biscuits & Snacks, Breakfast Cereals, Confectionery, Baby, Cold Beverages (excl Alchohol), Non-Food (Hygiene, Paper, Disposables, Pet Food, Health & Beauty) and Seasonal products) through building strong relationships with suppliers and implementation of category plans to grow market share and profitability of their category.
The successful candidate for this position is responsible for product costs on collective volumes, anticipation of product cost movement and supplier income generation. The Category Manager is also a key influencer of turnover via costings and promotional activity utilising effective range management techniques. The Category Manager is the start point for the application of increasing discipline across all aspects of the trading area and on into marketing, supply chain, sales and operations.
The job holder will be a commercially aware buying professional with a minimum of 3+ years directly relevant experience in the purchasing function of a simlar company, possess well developed PC skills, good influencing and negotiating skills and ideally be educated to degree level, together with a recognised purchasing qualification. They will also be a multi tasker, a doer as well as a strategiser, and a person who enjoys achieving. They will also be aware of developments in professional buying practice in the marketplace.
The candidate will also be excellent “people” person and be able to create relationships with both external and internal stakeholders.
